Chatham Grammar School for Boys –Sixth Form

Almost all of our students continue their post-16 studies here at Holcombe, joined each year by around 100 students from other Kent and Medway schools who choose to undertake their Sixth Form studies here as well. This results in an energetic and vibrant Sixth Form with a tangible sense of community and belonging. And because we are such a large Sixth Form,we can offer a very wide range of subjects for students to choose from, delivered on the Holcombe site. The Chatham Grammar School for Boys Sixth Form philosophy is that anyone who achieves a reasonable standard of GCSE level qualifications and wants to follow an academic programme of study post-16 should be given the opportunity to do so. We are the only grammar school in Medway that meets its commitment to provide academic courses to students who achieve a minimum of five grade C passes at GCSE,only mathematics and the sciences requiring a minimum of grade B. Of course, many students will have achieved grades A and A* at GCSE,and our committed and highly trained teachers make sure that these students are delivered a challenging and stretching programme so  that they achieve the highest possible A-Level grades. However, having the desire to study a subject at A-Level is not in itself enough as they are challenging qualifications which require a mature and responsible approach as well as a willingness to undertake extensive periods of independent study. However,if you choose your subjects wisely (and we will give you lots of help in doing so) and work hard enough, the rewards are enormous, including the opportunity to study at a top university.

Although your academic success is at the heart of everything we do,we believe that education is about a lot more than that. Therefore we provide lots of opportunities for you to participate in a range of clubs and activities including exchanges and trips to Europe,America and Asia, musical and dramatic productions, sporting teams and events,Young Dragons, the UK Maths Challenge, the Bank of England competition, the Duke of Edinburgh award, the opportunity to participate in debates and in mock trials, and much, much more. And we will also be keen for you to develop your leadership skills through becoming a school council representative,a prefect,a student mentor or by becoming a member of the School captain’s team.

Our Open Evening on January 10th will provide a taster of what is on offer here. However, why not call the school office to book a daytime visit to see us in action!
