Arthur Ingram Trust

If your son or daughter is aged between 14 and 18 years (older in exceptional circumstances) and you are
on a low income, you may be able to apply for financial assistance to help cover the cost of such things as school uniform and school trips.  There grants are funded from the Arthur Ingram Trust, which was set up in 1937 to help Medway families.

There are two types of grant depending on the age of the child. ‘General’ grants are for families where the child is aged 14 – 16 years. The maximum grant is £300 and application can be made at any time of year.
‘Continuing Education’ grants are designed to give assistance to families who are experiencing financial
hardship but who nevertheless decide to keep their 16– 18 year old child in full-time education. The
maximum grant is £400 and application forms are available from July with payments made in January/February.
Applications for both types of grant are means tested so evidence of income will be required. They are also
referred to Educational Welfare for verification that attendance has been at least 90%.  If you think you may be eligible for either grant, there are a small number of application forms in school which you can request from the school office.

Alternatively, you can request an application form from the Clerk to the Arthur Ingram Trust, c/o Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR.
