Examination Board: OCR (1900)
The aims of the course are to enable students to:
• read accurately and with understanding, analysing and evaluating a wide range of texts
• develop effective use of compositional skills and explore a widening variety of forms of writing for different purposes
• adapt speech to a widening range of circumstances and demands
The specification as a whole is sub-divided into units. In order to certificate for a GCSE qualification at least 4 units must be taken. Students must sit Units 1, 2 + %; Units 3 + 4 may both be taken or only one may be taken. If both units are taken only the highest mark will be used in certification.

The English Language and Literature GCSE courses provide an excellent broad foundation for a full range of A levels and careers, from banking and leisure to industry and the law. Grade B/C in Language and Literature will be required for further study at A Level in English Literature and A Level Language and Literature.
